The “red dot sight” or otherwise less commonly known as the “reflector” or “reflex sight” came in to use in the 1970’s. The benefit of these sights is that they give the user a simple bright red dot as an aiming point. Some of these sights have different brightness level’s that you can set them at for the shooters eye to adjust to different light shades throughout the day to dusk. Compared to telescopic sights, a red dot sight with no magnification can be held at a distance from the eye and at most angles, without distorting the image of the target. They are mostly used with both eyes open giving the shooter a normal depth perception and full field of view.
